Simulation Medicine

While rotating at the University hospital, residents have the opportunity to take part in high-fidelity simulated critical care resuscitations using METI and Laerdal mannequins at the WELLS Center*. Training scenarios include complex and rare life-threatening cardiovascular, metabolic, infectious, traumatic, and toxicologic emergencies for both adult and pediatric patients.

Residents participate as the head of a multi-disciplinary resuscitation team along with medical students, interns, and our own ED nursing staff. Time in the simulator improves resident clinical decision-making and leadership skills. Realism is enhanced with actors, props, ancillary staff, and a simulated model of an emergency department resuscitation bay within which training scenarios unfold.
