Clinical Education FellowshipDescription:The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is one of the few sites to offer a Clinical Education fellowship. Through excellent relationships with the School of Medicine, the Denver Health Residency Progam in Emergency Medicine, the University of Colorado Hospital, and with the School of Medicine's Academy of Medical Educators, Clinical Education fellows will be expected to teach on all levels (medical student, resident, and faculty), develop niche knowledge of educational systems (ISD, feedback and evaluation, remediation, conflict resolution, education administration, etc.), and integrate into Departmental educational endeavors. In addition, Education fellows will serve on the Program Advisory Committee as well as the Education committee for the residency program, as well as the advisory board for the Academy of Medical Educators.
Curriculum:This two-year clinical education fellowship will consist of:
1. Obtaining a Master-level degree in education.
2. Conducting a clinical education research study in which the fellow functions as the principal investigator.
Clinical:Each fellow will be appointed as a Clinical Instructor inthe Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, dependent upon approval by the School of Medicine Promotions Committee and the Dean. Each fellow will work a minimum of five shifts per month functioning as an attending physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health Medical Center, where duties will consist of evaluating and treating patients, supervising resident physicians and medical students, conducting teaching rounds, and providing medical records and documentation for services provided.
Fellow Support:Working as an attending physician in the emergency department at the University of Colorado Hospital. All education fellows will have dedicated office space, secretarial support, and access to a modern local area network with state-of-the-art wireless, internet, electronic mail, and printing capabilities, as well as data management and statistical software, including: Microsoft Office Suite, SAS, Stata, SPSS, DBMS/Copy, Pass, CART, SigmaPlot, and EndNote. Salary:Salary for each fellowship year will be dependent upon the fellow's level of postgraduate training or extent of extramural funding. Additional funds for educational expenses, travel to scientific meetings, etc. will be made available at a specific annual rate with any additional funds being provided by other extramural funding sources.
