Podcasts are a great way to get a taste of Emergency Medicine!

Podcasts offer more in-depth discussions of different topics in Emergency Medicine, and reviews of Emergency Medicine literature. A word of caution, however, these podcasts are not designed to discuss the basic topics in Emergency Medicine, rather, are more advanced discussions of EM topics.

Here are a few examples:

EM:RAP (EM: Research and Perspectives): This is one of the most popular EM podcasts for residents. This podcast is hosted by Drs. Mel Herbert and Stuart Swadron, both from the University of Southern California (USC). EM:RAP is a monthly podcast reviewing different topics in EM, including lectures from experts in the field, and includes a section every month called the 'C3 project', which reviews different basic subjects in EM in depth. This is a great podcast for more advanced students (and residents) interested in Emergency Medicine.

Check out the EM:RAP website for more information!

EMA (Emergency Medicine Abstracts): This is another excellent resource for medical students (and residents) interested in Emergency Medicine. Here you will find a review of recent literature specific to Emergency Medicine, as well as the perspective of the hosts.

Check out the EMA website for more information!

SMART EM (Scientific Medicine And Research Translation): Another excellent resource edited by Drs David Newman, and Ashley Shreves. This podcast chooses a very specific topic in EM, and discusses the topic in detail, including literature reviews and discussion of the topic.

EMcrit: Created by Dr. Scott Weingart, an ED intensivist - this podcast focuses on the treatment of the critically ill patient in the ED, and integrate knowledge from the ICU into the ED management of patients.
