DHREM Headlines
Dr. Bonnie Kaplan was nominated for the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award. Drs. Elena Garcia Ewert and John Anderson are recipients of the 2010 ACEP Medical Student Professionalism and Service Award.

Congratulations to Drs Chris Davis, John Houghland, Ryan Paterson, and Jody Vogel! They have been selected to be the 2010-2011 Chief Residents.
Dr John Houghland received the CORD Faculty Development Scholarship to attend the 2010 CORD Academic Assembly. This annual scholarship is given by EMRA to three individuals nationally with significant academic and scholarly interest who have demonstrated teaching experience and a commitment to education. Recipients of the 2009 CORD Faculty Development Scholarship included DHREM senior resident Dr Nathan Cleveland.
UC-Denver Departmental Status (1/1/2010): The Division of Emergency Medicine officially became a Department at the University of Colorado-Denver.
ACEP Simwars 2009! DHREM were one of six residencies to compete in the ACEP 2009 Sim Wars, an interactive simulation competition that allowed them to try their honed simulation skills against other residency teams on simulated patient encounters in front of a large audience.
ED Construction: The first renovated wing of the Emergency Department opened in the winter of 2009, featuring 2 state-of-the-art medical resuscitation rooms, 14 monitored beds (each with TVs for patients and computers for staff), 8 monitored beds in the new ED observation unit, and computerized ED board. Transition to use of the second renovated portion began in August, which features six new trauma resuscitation rooms and monitored minor trauma rooms. Completion of all construction is scheduled for March 2010.

OVERVIEW 


Dr Mike Zieske, MD was chosen as the winner of The Children's Hospital (TCH) monthly resident professionalism award for October 2009. This honor, given to one non-peds resident monthly for outstanding work and professionalism, was awarded to Dr Zieske after being nominated by an ED nurse for his outstanding interpersonal interactions with staff and families.
